Portfolios: Jon Tarranza

That happy pirate (he's not really a pirate)with the big smile up there is Jon Tarranza. He can pretty much be called as one of the most sought after graphic designers in the city right now. His  graphic design firm/business named Hue Dare that he runs with his girlfriend have been doing really good since it started out in 2011. At Hue Dare they create mind blowing designs for band logos,t-shirts, album covers, and even flyers. It is absolutely a must for you to try and check out their works on Hue Dare's Facebook Page

What I really like about Jon's works are the lines. I mean if you look at some of his works, especially some intended for t-shirt , you will definitely be amazed on how he makes use of those lines to add astonishing details to his designs. I had the opportunity to watch him at work when I tried to see what's happening on a digital art exhibit that took place that year, and I tell you that was a pretty awesome sight. It was like watching a spider creating his web- careful and and precise, and you just know that he is going to create something impressive in the end.

Photo Box: Capturing Beauty with Ralph Casquejo

One of the many people that Davao City should be proud of is Monsieur Ralph Casquejo. Born and bred in Davao City ,this man has proven his undeniable talent in photography as he travels and captures the many faces of happiness through his lens.

The first time I browsed through his portfolio and his Facebook albums, I knew exactly right there and then that there is a need for the Davaoist to feature him! His photos are three things: positive, fresh and always full of love! No wonder why he has covered so many events like weddings and pre-nups already! Aside from that, he has done family portraits and conceptual ones as well.

To give you a peek of his beautiful work, take a look at some of the photos below.

Portfolios: Darwin Regner (Digital Art)

One of the perks of being a writer for The Davaoist is that you will get to know some of the most awesome people in the city. People whom I think has the mindset and the abilities that Davao desperately needs right now. Our generation needs passionate people if we want our city to have its own identity and  Darwin Regner is one of them. I don't know this guy personally. I never had an actual conversation with him. But  what I know is that he is one of the Davaoeños ( along with the other people that got and will get featured in this magazine) that can potentially help our city escape from the boorishness that is it is suffering from right now. That vision of the future might be a long way but we just gotta have try and take a leap towards it.

Darwin is a hard worker. He now works as a desginer for tshirtpusher.com and fdsportwear.com and at the same time he teaches at Holy Cross of Davao College. Pretty Impressive. He have also talked to me about a venture that they are going to launch pretty soon. I think that I am  allowed to talk about Azzmonkey.com, which is a premium clothing brand who are intended for people who can afford to play hard and then party even harder (the life). If not, then "ooops!"

My most favorite designs that are made by Darwin are the ones that exude his wit and also the ones that seem to attack the conventional. His skills in creating graphic designs is impeccable. His inclination on incorporating subtle ( ok, not all of the time) messages to his work is also something  fresh. And because of that, we just hope that we would be able  to see more of Darwin's artworks in the future.

You can see more his work by visiting his online portfolio

Here are some of the stunning graphic designs that

Darwin had in store for us.

Portfolios: A Life in 3d with Rafael Benedicto

If  you love 3d, then you will definitely love the works of Rafael Benedicto. He is one of the few Davao graphic artists that have already perfected the art of organic modelling, robotic modeling, vehicle modeling, and a texturing with the use of software like 3ds Max and Adobe Photoshop. And when I say the word " perfected", I mean it and with no intent to over-sell. He actually wrote on his bio that he is "quite proficient" in making 3d models. Well, don't believe him. Believe me when I say that "quite proficient" does not suffice to describe the quality of his work.

Rafael is now studying BS-Architecture in Ateneo De Davao University. So, pretty much, when he is done with that, he will begin to grace the world with his hyper futuristic Halo-themed buildings. I have not really seen some of his Industrial models so I'm just taking a guess here. However, that concept may actually look pretty awesome. Or he may even end up designing video games and movies or the other whatnot. But whatever path he chooses ( he may even chose the path of the Jedi)  we just feel the certainty that he will do great in it and make every Davaoist proud.

You can check out his online portfolio to see more of the awesome 3d models that he made.

The models that were made by Rafael are hyper-realistic. They all seem like they could jump out of your screen any moment. You don't believe me? Take a look at some of the samples that we have provided for you below.

Photo Box: Uncovering the Dark Side of Enchanted Kingdom With Markuz Pidor

Never in my wildest imagination have I thought that portraying a seemingly fun place like Enchanted Kingdom as  a child-swallowing,dark ,and mysterious rendezvous for lost souls is even possible and by any sense would look totally cool. Most people would see E.K as what it is. A place for fun and games where we have the permission to be transported back to our childhood. But that was not the case with our guy Markuz Pidor, whom I think, pretty much sees things differently than most of us. You just know that this guy have depth and an imagination that can turn mundane events into frozen moments that compels us to visit somewhere that we have never been before. That last sentence, my fellow Davaoists, is my definition of creativity.

I don't remember how I stumbled upon his Dark Enchantments album. All that I remember though is that when I did, I immediately felt the urge to share it. Just exactly like the urge that you feel when you are about to eat something that is totally mouth-watering. You just have to Instagram it before you take a bite( people who do this  please raise yor hand). However, this time we all get to enjoy the exquisite experience that Markuz had prepared for all of us-one photo at a time.

I'm not really sure if Markuz doesn't really want me to divulge much information about him or if I'm just bad at getting jokes ( maybe I am just bad at getting jokes). But I won't say anything more about him. If you force me, I may have to take you Markuz's version of Enchanted Kingdom and let you lose and ask "Mr. Kapre Corn" to soften you up.

Take a look at the world of Markuz by visiting his Tumblr Blog

Now gather up and take a look at the other side of Enchanted Kingdom

That guy right there. That is "Mr. Kapre Corn"

Photo Box: Photographing Pure Happinness with Foxy Lorrie

I first met this beautiful Davaoeña way back in 2006 when my friends and I had our photo taken at 1001 Digital Photography (SM Ecoland). I believe that it is the go to studio for barkadas and families alike. Miss Lorrie was very welcoming and friendly during our first encounter that it didn't just happen as a one time thing! It became a tradition as my friends and I would go there to have our faces immortalized through the works of her highly enthusiastic team of photographers even without any particular reason at all! In 2009, the first time we wore our scrubs, my groupmates actually went to the studio! Don't judge us, but yes, we particularly celebrated almost every moment of our university days there! Personally though, the most memorable thing about Miss Lorrie was in 2008 when I asked her team to cover my 18th birthday celebration. I chose them because I knew they would do so well...and yes they delivered!

Miss Lorrie being a photographer does so well in portraiture. What I really like about her is her ability to capture that exact moment where emotions are seen beyond the faces of the subjects...That hundredth of a second where time seems to stop and the shutter successfully opens and closes then voila, a moment is seized and perfectly captured!

Recently, she did a photoshoot for an acquaintance who works in the US Military and her fiancée. Take a look at the photos below and be inspired to get married (or just be inspired)!

Aside from this, Miss Lorrie also did shoots featuring blooming and expectant mommies! What a great idea!

To book shoots, you can contact Miss Lorrie through her Facebook account or call 1001 Digital Photography using the numbers provided below!
